Leela Mahal Residence At Ezhupunna
The original structure comprised of a large godown like structure which was used as a canning factory. Keeping the original footprint, two wings were attached to both ends of the central structure which were then linked together by an arcaded covered walkway which expanded in the centre to accommodate an entrance lobby and car porch. The arcade was detached from the main structure which resulted in two garden courts on either side. Since the original structure had a low plinth the house sits close to the ground with seamless integration of the garden to the indoor. A large circular drive in front with a formal circular lawn form an expansive setting to the linear low slung building built in the Spanish hacienda style. The arches were influenced by the original Tharavadu house across the roads.
